I started off on a 3 day hunt in Culpeper Virginia. My friends MarylandRon and MarylandJack were with me and we sure had a good time. My finds in Culpeper were minimal with the Keppe Buckle being my best find there. I road home with Ron and Jack for a planned 1 day hunt at one of their secret campsites in Maryland. WOW! What a great 1 dayer that included this great National Guard button and my first ever Half Dime. I also dug all 6 of my Civil War Bullets that day. Great time with Great friends.

Keppe Buckle from a soldiers hat. Notice the small leather remnant still attached to the center piece.I found this while excavation a trash pit.

Not sure what this is but it is a heavy cap with an ornate design. Appears to be a flower in the center. It's about the size of a silver dollar.

Bottom side. It took me better than 30 minutes to dig this out from under a large root. I had to use the old root saw.

While in Culpeper hunting out in the woods I found
an old Civil War soldier's trash pit. My hunting
buddy Scott Catulle and I decided to dig it out. We spent several hours hoping to find some significant relics.
It was exciting but we did not find a biggie. I did manage to find the Keppe Buckle and all the square nails shown above. We found a couple old whiskey bottles but they were broken up. It was a fun experience.
